The missing part is always the one you don't have in stock
A coder down in the middle of production costs far more than the spare part itself: stopped lines, unmarked expiry dates, rejected batches, delayed shipments. Managing wear parts proactively is the most cost-effective maintenance habit — and the most frequently neglected one. This guide reviews the critical spare parts to anticipate for every marking technology, with their exact references.
Thermal printheads: the critical TTO part
The printhead is the most stressed component of a thermal transfer coder: heated and cooled thousands of times per minute, it wears mechanically and thermally. Unmistakable warning signs: permanent white streaks along the print direction, blurred or ghosted areas, uneven contrast from one edge to the other. As soon as these symptoms appear, replacement should be scheduled — waiting for total failure means risking a line stop.
ALLEN FRANCE supplies genuine ceramic printheads for the entire range:
- KCE-53 (ref. PM0321) — 53 mm printhead for NG2 / NG2+, fitted to the TTO NG2+ coder
- KCE-107 (ref. PM0653) — 107 mm printhead for NG4 / NG4+, fitted to the NG4 coder
- KCE-160 (ref. PNG0015) — 160 mm printhead for NG6 / NG6E
- KCE-213 (ref. PNG0055) — 213 mm printhead for NG8 / NG8E
- Refs PKT1011 and PKT1018 — printheads for the 53K coder and 107K
- TIJ printhead + Robocap™ cap — for the Ti-12 printer, the only thermal inkjet that never clogs
Ribbon holder cassettes: one in service, one as backup
The ribbon holder cassette is mechanically stressed at every consumable change: shafts, springs and lugs wear out. A tired cassette causes ribbon wrinkles, poor drive and recurring print defects. The workshop rule: one cassette in service, one in reserve — swapping them also extends the life of both.
Genuine references by machine:
- PNG0061 — cassette for NG2 / NG2+
- PNG0065 and PNG0261 — cassette for NG4 / NG4+, including the OPPOSITE version
- PNG0054 — cassette for NG6 / NG6E
- PNG0118 — cassette for NG8 / NG8E
- PBE0172 and PBE0173 — cassette for the XL5000 and OPPOSITE version
- P8530 — cassette for the Super Compact 5030 hot coder
Control boxes, cartridges and inks
Beyond thermal transfer, every technology has its critical consumables. For hot coders, the P8540 and P8676 power and control boxes equip the Super Compact 5030. On the inkjet side:
- PBT0002 cartridges — black ink for AF25 / AF50 marking guns
- PBT0005 cartridges — black ink for the E62P inkjet
- PW, PRO and PKT ranges — black, red and white cartridges for Integra One, X1JET, X2JET, X4JET and Ti-12
- PJE range (Black Mamba, Black Velvet…) — cartridges for TJ500 / TJ1000
- PKT0007, PKT0018, PJE5010 bottles — M.O.F oil-based and solvent-based inks for X72, X18 and ResMark 5000
Maintenance kits: prevention before breakdown
Genuine maintenance kits gather the wear parts to replace during preventive servicing: springs, rollers, seals and small mechanics. One kit per machine and scheduled maintenance — the simplest formula to never face a breakdown at full speed.
- PNG0129 / PNG0131 / PNG0124 — printhead maintenance kits for NG2/NG2+, NG4/NG4+, NG6/NG6E and NG8/NG8E
- PNG0128 / PNG0123 — cassette maintenance kits for NG2 to NG4+ and NG6 to NG8E
- PBE0176 — complete maintenance kit for the XL5000
- MJR0052, MJR0056, MJR0049 — maintenance kits for RF Lite, RF1-F and RF-AUTO unstackers
- KIT-CLEAN — printhead cleaning kit for TTO, TIJ and CIJ: extends head life between replacements
Stock strategy: the minimum to keep on hand
For every coder in production, our technicians recommend a minimum stock: one spare printhead, one backup cassette, one maintenance kit, and a supply of ribbons or cartridges matched to your output. Immobilized cost: a few hundred euros. Cost of a one-day line stop: several thousand. The math is easy.
